Birds with Beats Artwork

A keen interest in birds has stayed with me, flowed into my artwork and is a subject I truly enjoy painting.

Why Birds

‘Birds with Beats’ is a series that stems from my love of nature and music. I have always had an interest in wildlife, birds in particular. As a boy I was given a book one Christmas called ‘Birds of the British Isles’ which led to me spending hours in the garden trying to find and identify as many birds as I could.

This interest in birds has stayed with me, flowed into my artwork and is a subject I truly enjoy painting.

When not painting birds I can be found from time to time bird watching at our local Glen Lough Nature Reserve or other Bird Watching sites.

Birds with Beats Collection

Cruthú Arts Festival

The first ‘Birds with Beats’ I painted was for a group exhibition which made up part of Cruthú Arts Festival in my home town in County Longford, Ireland.

The theme chosen was nature so I decided to experiment with my bird paintings. Interest in the pieces was super encouraging, to the point that I sold out in the first couple of days.

Following on from this I created my first whole series of ‘Birds with Beats’ as affordable art pieces.  I then started developing the idea into larger more detailed works and even created quite a few street art murals based on the theme of Birds, Nature and Music combined.

Birds with beats came about from wanting to add something different to the bird paintings I had been doing.

While in the studio working, I would regularly listen to music on my Beats headphones. The idea came about quite by chance while trying to find something unusual to add to my paintings, I picked up my beats and thought these could fit.

Even as I first said birds with beats it had a flow. It added something whimsical and quirky and worked for me as a concept.

Commissions

The response has remained great. Clients regularly commission works which include the birds or even elements of the ‘Birds with Beats’ series.

The paintings invoke laughter and conversation.

The people who have bought or commissioned them have told of the connection with the bird they have chosen, which often reminds them of a loved one or a fond memory of some other kind.

The Future of Birds

At this point I have painted all types of birds, from garden birds such as robins and sparrows to more exotic ones like parrots and vultures.

You can even see an unusual Emu and a fiery Phoenix on the walls around Longford town if you search.

For more information on available pieces or you’d like to commission your own personalised ‘Birds with Beats’ feel free to contact me.

I’m happy to discuss any potential project…….
